THis was a fast turn around for another adventurous corporate video that wanted a hard hitting theme for an American Lawyer sequence.

Very, very occasionally, in my experience, a job comes along where you just know that this will always be one of your better works.
Red Johnstone, then at Transmedia, directed a documentary for ITV and Discovery about the Apollo astronauts. It told the story of the moon landings through interview with all but 1 of the men and fantastic insights from the men behind Mission Control in those days. These adventures were real seat of the pants stuff, but what they got to see, and how the moon has changed their life is tender and inspiring.
I am not a classically trained composer, but I took the ambitious decision to go purely orchestral and write directly to the finished edit, reflecting every nuance while not detracting from the incredible footage of the moon. This was not a selection of tracks just nailed to the pictures; it is one piece that starts at the front and ends at the end credits. I am very proud of this work. Here is an extract from the 40 minute composition.

I hesitated at digging this one out from the pile, but then the Spice Girls went on an ear killing tour so I just had to.
This was written for a corporate film, believe it or not, to promote Philips Electrical products to hard bitten retailers. The Spice girls were big at the time and the client wanted a girl group sound.
Miriam Stockley and her friend came up with the goods, not only sounding like a 90s girl group, but singing in tune on the first take - without any help from me!
This is as corny and dated as you can get - and that is perfect.

I have done a lot of work for British Pathé News over the years, sometimes as a dubbing mixer having the great honour of rebuilding some of their soundtracks into glorious stereo, and then later writing new music for some of their historic footage.
Music has included comedy for Transports of Desire, sheer lunacy for Gizmos and then a large suite of music to cover s programme on the 1940s. This excerpt is from the latter work. It starts with a very gentle walz that accompanied dramatic footage of the blitz and then some pieces to cover air sequences and more traditional WW2 footage.

Moonrock radio is a sadly defunct internet radio station aimed at London's financial community. The brain child of Tim Price, it combined financial news with a large dose of Private Eye style comment. This was meant to be useful information with the gloves off.
One of the elements of the half hour radio show was a chart run-down of what was hot that week in the markets. This subtle piece of music gave the charts a good kicking in the background.
